THE TILE MILE PROJECT
THE TILE MILE PROJECT is a multi-phased project that aims to creatively revitalize a commercial corridor neighborhood with tile installations and sculptures, mosaic murals, and engaging mosaic façade makeovers for entire blocks. The project is also is also an interconnected group of people, educational experiences, and cultural exchanges that invite the public into the process of neighborhood beautification and civic engagement. Trish Metzner envisioned a project that bridges art and industry, uniting community with development. “My intention is to provide education and specialized skills to people who will continue to serve and improve their neighborhood. It is about building teams and creating art as a response to the needs and challenges we face in our everyday lives.”
As a local attraction, The TILE MILE will showcase and document what is best and most interesting about ceramic tile as an art form, the people and processes involved, and the historic Philadelphia marketplace neighborhood known as East Falls. As a living experience, the project delves into the curious journey of creating such an massive work of art.
