Buenos Dias Amigos! You’re invited to an arts and cultural retreat in the high mountainous region of Puebla, Mexico known as Zacatlan De Las Manzanas. Zacatlan is a traditional Spanish Colonial pueblo surrounded by indigenous agricultural communities whom still speak the Aztec language, Nahuatl. It is a place of ancient natural wonder. Recently, The Department of Tourism declared Zacatlan an official “Pueblo Magico.” These are villages exalted for authenticity of indigenous tradition, cuisine, culture and ecological beauty.
Explore authentic customs, traditions, flavors and tranquility of one of the few accessible places in this world where nature hasn't been overtaken by modernization, the air is clean, and food is still naturally grown and organic. The myriad of cultures that make up the region is fascinating, certainly not the Mexico you see on TV or at huge tourist resorts. Bring your hiking boots and leave your heels. This small group tour is about exploring pristine forests and bustling outdoor markets. The experience will leave you energized and fueled by the wonders of nature. It was here that Trish Metzner, a mosaic muralist from Philadelphia, has been teaching and directing mosaic mural projects since 2014. The trip offers a chance to participate in an adobe construction and mosaic mural workshop right on the private resort where we will be staying, posh cabins tucked away in a wooded paradise.
